Printed acetate

It is a while since my last post and I will probably forget something I have done. This is one of the most recent things.

The tutors sugested I use paper weaves I had made to project onto a wall. I had to get special acetate that could go thought a printer without melting. The woman in the library printed the weave on to it for me. I brought a projector down to the room just outside the church. There were a lot of white boxes up against the wall but I left them as they were. I took a few photos of the projection as well as some video.

I am happy enough with how it turned out and I suppose it will help me take my work in a different direction.

This is a paper weave I made. I am happy with it although I started it using glue and finished using sellotape which you can see in the photo from the shine. I made a simpler one with double sided tape with was much easier than glue but just as neat. I would like to try making a round version and experiment with this in other ways.

For a couple of days I have been working on another chess piece the same size as the last ones. This time I plaited the wire and used much more of it. It took awhile to do but I have made a bishop. I haven't enough wire to make any more at the moment. I am thinking of covering it in tissue like I did with tiny versions I made before.

Today I made very simple silhouette style pieces from cardboard. I had intended to make two of each shape and slot them together but I didn't try that yet. I hadn't much cardboard with me so I have only made a pawn, castle, knight and bishop. I painted them black and made little stands for them. I am happy with them but I feel I could do more work with them. I would like to try to give them another dimension by slotting. The knight would be particularly challenging.

Last week I made some basic models from wire. They are much bigger than my clay pieces. Yesterday I made the final one, the knight.
Last week I also made a pawn from paper straws. I liked how it turned out although it was a bit small. Also I am unsure of how to create each piece distinctively by adding detail. The basic shape is simple enough but I may have to glue pieces on to distinguish them.
